Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Ivan's Story

Ivan needs a skilled K9 dog handler. He may be working dog quality. Any Metro K9 officers out there willing to rehab this young, intelligent dog? He has bonded with several of our volunteers, but does not easily meet and accept new people. He certainly is not a candidate for anyone with children or those without GSD experience. Ivan has human bite records. We have worked to discern his triggers, but have not been successful. He has been in our care since May. His rehab has gone as far as we can take it with the resources available to us. We have discerned introducing him to a number of people all at once will overwhelm him, resulting in a bite. It will take multiple introductions in order for Ivan to trust. 6-12-2017 update: Ivan has been neutered and is settling down. Today he saw a horse and was very curious, cautious but not fearful. Of course we didn’t get too close but instead just walked across the street and behind the horse and rider until we went our separate ways. He is still proving to be very particular about the people he chooses to trust. So for now we are going to continue to work with him, and his trust issues. Please stay tuned for updates on this handsome and curious boy. Meet young Ivan. At almost 15 months, this beautiful boy is already quite the head turner. Ivan needs to be neutered, and needs some time to decompress and settle down. Once he’s had time to adjust, we will get to know more about him and post his bio..

Bunny's Story

Meet VSR’s Easter orphan, Bunny. Turned into the local shelter as a stray, Bunny is thought to be 2-3 years old. Bunny is very scared and confused (look how tucked her tail is in the pictures.) She was previously spayed and it seems as though she was a loved family member in the pretty recent past. We are letting Bunny decompress and learn that she is safe before we start getting to know more about our little Easter girl.

Gabi's Story

Say hello to VSR’s newest orphan, Gabi. Thought to be about 2 years old, this happy, sweet girl loves people. She is also good with other well behaved big dogs. Typical of many shepherds, Gabi has a prey drive that is no joke! Little dogs, cats, chickens, you name it, and Gabi is on it! She alerts, then sits and quivers and whines until she is distracted or the “prey” is out of her sight. Her temperament is really wonderful, and she’s just the right size! As soon as we get her all checked out and adoption ready, we will post more pictures and a more detailed bio, so stay tuned!

Chyna's Story

Meet sweet senior Chyna! Surrendered by her family after 9 years of being a loyal companion, even though she never saw the inside of the house. All that’s changed now, and Chyna is living happily in a foster home. And who would have thought that this classic shepherd girl would live harmoniously with cats? If a cat will give a hiss and smack Chyna on the nose once, Chyna is happy to steer clear of the kitties. Chyna prefers to be the only dog in the house, and at her age, if that’s what Chyna wants, that’s what Chyna shall have. Young children aren’t anything Chyna wants to deal with either, as they can be unpredictable and kind of scary to her. If you think you have the dream home Miss Chyna has been fantasizing about all these years, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step of our adoption process. Chyna does have some arthritis at the base of her tail, but the x rays show her hips are in great shape. She easily hops up onto the furniture without any problems. We would travel around the world to give Chyna the wonderful home she deserves! So get busy, and get packing. Chyna’s ready to take on the world with her new family!

Jaxon lived with another dog his size and older children in his last home, but his needs just weren’t being met. Once we get him checked out medically and determine that he is healthy, we will be posting a more detailed bio.

Kobe's Story

Meet Kobe. Kobe is a 5 1/2 year old male whose family became unable to give Kobe the life he deserved. The family struggled for months trying to create a home environment that Kobe was comfortable in, but ultimately it was determined that it was in Kobe’s best interest to live in a home where his anxiety would be kept to a minimum. Kobe is good with other large dogs. He will need a home without cats and young children. Kobe LOVES to have his belly rubbed and loves to play in the kiddy pool. Kobe has an eye condition called pannus that is easily managed with drops once a day. The drops cost about $45 a bottle and last 1 1/2 to 2 months. Please fill out our online adoption application if you are interested in meeting Kobe or any of our other orphans. It’s the first step in our adoption process.

Nero's Story

This drop dead gorgeous 5 year old boy is Nero. He was surrendered to the local shelter for snapping at a teenager. He has some history of anxiety, but we are going to let him decompress, get him groomed and get rid of the matted hair, then we will get to know the real dog. Nero LOVES to play frisbee and loves the kiddy pool. Nero is a typical aloof shepherd and proper doggy and human introductions are required. If you’d like to meet Nero or any of our orphans, the first step is filling out our online adoption application.

  • Age: 10 years

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Bryce's Story

Meet AMAZING 5 year old Bryce! This dog has energy and drive for days! We recently pulled him from the shelter where he was turned in because of his extreme prey drive. Bryce is happy and well behaved. We are getting him healthy; he needs a dental and to put on several pounds. Once he’s good to go, we’ll post a more detailed bio!
