Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Jayden's Story

After being at the shelter for 10 long days in pain, she hasn’t been a fan of the people in white coats poking and prodding her. We are going to let her decompress (with some pain meds) and will get her spayed and feeling good. Then we will get to know her and post her bio.

Rufus's Story

Everybody knows how much VSR LOVES the seniors. And Rufus is another shining example of why. This special black and cream colored boy had been at the local shelter. But that didn’t stop him from happily wagging his tail all 3 times I passed him when I was there. Rufus is probably about 6 or 7 years old, underweight and desperately in need of a dental. So we will neuter Rufus at the same time his dental work is done and then spend some time getting to know more about him. Then we will write his bio.

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Most of his hair has fallen out, his feet are extremely swollen and cracked and he’s very underweight. Our doctors diagnosed him with demodex mange. But that doesn’t stop Beowulf from being a friendly, happy and sweet boy. He’s well on his way to being healthy. Once he’s neutered, we will get to know more about him and then post a more detailed bio.

Ellie Mae's Story

Sweet 7 year old Ellie Mae was dropped off at the local kill shelter by some people who claimed they found her as a stray. It doesn’t appear she was stray for long because although she looked like she had never been brushed, she also hadn’t missed many meals. The meals she had were probably not the highest quality, because her coat shows signs of poor nutrition. Ellie Mae has a lot of life and love left to give. She’s now spayed, and we have started her on some anti-inflammatories as she had a little bit of trouble getting up off the the cold, hard floor of the shelter. Ellie Mae loves to snuggle and just sit and enjoy being outside. She showed some interest in a tennis ball , but mostly she just wants to be s close to someone. She’s very stressed out being in the kennel environment. Doesn’t Ellie Mae deserve to spend her golden years being a loved and cherished family member? If you can offer this precious girl the loving home of her dreams, please fill out our online adoption application. That gets the process started.

Chobani's Story

Meet beautiful Chobani. This 2ish girl was turned into the local shelter as a stray. Yes, another over the counter stray. She is terribly underweight, and in need of a few good meals. All ready spayed, this gorgeous girl is so happy and friendly, that when she got out of the kennel at the shelter, she turned to the male pitbull that was in the kennel right next to her and they gave each other little doggy kisses through the kennel door before I led her away! How stinkin’ sweet is that? Chobani doesn’t seem to be a fan of other female dogs, but that is just a preliminary observation. Once she has decompressed and is more comfortable with us, we will write a more detailed bio.

Fantasia/Fanny's Story

UPDATE 4/26/17: VSR orphan and Miracle GSD Network dog, Fantasia was spayed on Monday and is recovering nicely. As you can see her neck has completely healed up. She is now ready to start living again. She’s still a little bit timid and unsure when you touch her on certain parts of her body, but she’s a sweet girl and vet clinic favorite. She was not reactive at all towards any of the dogs we saw in the lobby either. We will continue to get to know more about he and update her bio as we learn more. Miracle Dog and VSR orphan Fantasia is doing great! Her neck is healing really well and won’t need to be surgically closed. She is scheduled to be spayed on Monday, so stay tuned for more Fanny updates!

Meet petite Fantasia. This little pocket sized shepherd came to the local kill shelter with a wound conducive of having a rope or chain collar embedded into her neck. How could we turn our back on this little dumpling dog, who, as you can see by the pictures, has not given up on humans? With the help of the GSD Miracle Network, we were able to raise the money needed to make sure she gets the best care possible. Fantasia was happy to give kisses, and wanted to be included in the discussion concerning her treatment plan. ( and this is one of the many reasons we love the doctors at Craig Road Animal Hospital! They are always happy and willing to discuss the options concerning the care and treatment of the dogs.) The treatment plan that was agreed upon was to give Fantasia a couple of days to see how her wound responds and starts to heal before she is put under anesthesia for her spay. If the wound can heal without having to surgically close it, of course that is the route we will take. The other concern was how to keep Fanny from leaving her spay incision alone, once the surgery is performed, as she obviously is unable to wear a cone. So while we let this little pixie shepherd begin to heal physically and emotionally from her former life, we will show her all the goodness we can and let her know she will never be hurt like this again. Then we will post her bio. So stay tuned. There’s more to come of the story of Fantasia.

Dash's Story

DASH UPDATE 5/17/17!!!
Dash had his surgery late yesterday! It was a difficult surgery, but Dash came through it like a champ! He will need extensive rehab, but the doctors are confident he will have full use of his leg! We couldn’t be happier for this sweet peanut of a dog. But we are still short about $900 to cover the cost of the surgery. It came out to just over $1900. Can you please open your hearts and give? Any amount helps. Doesn’t Dash deserve to live up to his name and have the ability to dash all over the back yard of the forever home that’s out there waiting for him? The link to our website is in the comments to make a donation.

VSR was recently contacted by the local shelter about this tiny, young dog. Probably under a year old, Dash has had a really rough start in life! As you can see from the X-rays, Dash needs hip surgery, and he needed it yesterday! This poor dog, only about the size of a minute, has been surviving in pain for quite some time. We think he may have been hit by a car. We need to raise $2000 for the surgery Dash so desperately needs! He is such a kind and sweet dog, friendly with other dogs, even in the pain he is in. He tries to run and play like a healthy young dog, but quickly starts to limp, and sadly will stop playing, once his pain escalates over his threshold. Can you help us help this precious boy? We are scheduling his surgery for as soon as possible so Dash can heal and see what it feels like to be a dog out of pain. We will post the link to our PayPal account in the comments.
