Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Chyna's Story

Meet sweet senior Chyna! Surrendered by her family after 9 years of being a loyal companion, even though she never saw the inside of the house. All that’s changed now, and Chyna is living happily in a foster home. And who would have thought that this classic shepherd girl would live harmoniously with cats? If a cat will give a hiss and smack Chyna on the nose once, Chyna is happy to steer clear of the kitties. Chyna prefers to be the only dog in the house, and at her age, if that’s what Chyna wants, that’s what Chyna shall have. Young children aren’t anything Chyna wants to deal with either, as they can be unpredictable and kind of scary to her. If you think you have the dream home Miss Chyna has been fantasizing about all these years, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step of our adoption process. Chyna does have some arthritis at the base of her tail, but the x rays show her hips are in great shape. She easily hops up onto the furniture without any problems. We would travel around the world to give Chyna the wonderful home she deserves! So get busy, and get packing. Chyna’s ready to take on the world with her new family!

Yoshi's Story

By no fault of his own, Yoshi is being returned. Yoshi is a 4.5 year old male – the perfect age for any GSD. He would do best as the only dog in the home. He plays too rough for children under the age of 8 yo. He loves to meet new people. Yoshi enjoys leash walks, hikes and makes a great running partner. His favorite pastime is playing fetch with his green bone or a frisbee. If you are an active family and looking for a mature boy, Yoshi is your guy! He’s available after 12/31 for meet and greets. http://www.vegasshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application/

************************

History: Meet 13 month old Yoshi. This gorgeous boy needed a place to go when his elderly owner became ill and was unable to care for him. He was bounced around to a few different people who offered to take him without thinking about what a young, very active shepherd really needs. He ended up at a doggy day care and that’s when VSR was notified. Yoshi plays with dogs his own size like most young dogs do. Rough and tumbling. Yoshi loves the hose and the kiddy pool. He is also very affectionate, but has no idea how big he really is. It would be best for Yoshi to go to a home with no small children, just because of his energy and size. He also is not a fan of the small critters. Other dogs his size seem to be his preference. If you think this gorgeous boy is just what the doctor ordered, start the adoption process by filling out our online adoption application. Yoshi has been bounced too many times already, it’s time for him to settle in for the long haul with his true forever family.

Benny's Story

HELP!!!! WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP SO WE CAN GET BENNY THE MEDICAL TREATMENT HE NEEDS TO BE PAIN FREE! Grab your Kleenex before you read this heart wrenching story of this beautiful boy, probably about 3 years old, who has lived his whole life in pain. Running loose, he was picked up by Animal Control and taken to the shelter, where he was terrified and shut down. His memo on the transfer list stated, “When putting dog back in the kennel, dog wrapped his paws around staff tightly and refused to let go. After a minute the dog let go. It took 2 staff members to lift the dog back in the kennel. He went straight to the back and laid down trembling and lip licking.” Upon examination by our vets, and doing x-rays, we found that Benny has severe hip dysplasia in both hips! The only way to alleviate his pain is to do surgery on both hips. We need $4000 to do the surgeries. We also need a foster home for Benny to recover in. It would be a 4 month commitment, as the surgeries need to be done 8 weeks apart. Once Benny is cleared medically after both surgeries, the foster family will have the first right of refusal to adopt this sweet boy. The staff at the vet clinic gushes about what a sweet, gentle boy Benny is. He’s still very scared and just starting to eat. He weighs only 56 lbs! He’s not even healthy enough to have his neuter surgery. So please, please open your hearts and your wallets! No amount is too small. Hasn’t Benny lived in pain long enough? We need your help to change Benny’s world.

Gunther “Gunny”'s Story

Update July 1, 2018: Gunther has a ball drive that is hard to even imagine unless you see him in action. That being said, it’s not surprising that Gunny has guarding issues with his ball. Because of his high drive, energy and guarding, Gunther needs to go to a home with teenage kids or adult only home. He does best without other dogs. Meet handsome 3 year old Gunther. Gunther came to us after being returned to the local shelter for putting his mouth on somebody’s arm. He then developed a hematoma on his neuter site and had to have an additional surgery to correct it. He is healing nicely and we are getting to know more about this beautiful boy. We will update his bio when we know more.

Armani's Story

9/17/18 UPDATE: Now that I have been with VSR a while, they have learned that although I won’t share my home with other females, I would like a nice, submissive, male dog to push around, oh, I mean play with. As long as boy will let me be in charge, we can have lots of fun playing together. I do need a proper introduction to my possible boy toys though. Do you have the experienced home I’m looking for, because I’m still waiting for my forever home.

Hi, My name is Armani, and I can tell you the last couple months of my life have been really stressful and confusing for me. I was dropped off at a local shelter, where I was very scared. Luckily I got out alive and was put into a home, but that home had other big female dogs, and I just didn’t do well there. I like being the only princess in the home. I ended up at another shelter until finally Vegas Shepherd Rescue was able to rescue me. I was SOOOO happy to get out of there. I danced and jumped and even had a chance to roll around in some soft, wet, cool grass! I need to put on some weight, and I have an ear infection that is being treated. The VSR folks are still getting to know more about what I like and don’t like. It’s possible I may be shepherd/ Belgian Malinois mix, so an experienced home will be a must for my adoptive home. Stay tuned as VSR learns more about me and post updates to my story.

Snickers's Story

Meet beautiful Snickers. Thought to be about 3 years old, sweet Snickers was found in the front yard of an animal lover, who went to great lengths to find her owners. Snickers was in pretty rough shape and was very scared and skittish, but since coming into VSR’s care, Snickers has come out of her shell, and is learning to trust. We were just recently able to spay her, as she was in heat when we brought her in. Snickers has been diagnosed with pannus, an eye condition that is easily managed with eye drops. She now takes her daily walks with one of our male VSR orphans, and does fine with him. If you think you have the loving, patient home Snickers needs, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step in our adoption process.

Darco's Story

Meet beautiful Darco. This gorgeous 4ish year old boy was confiscated by the police and then held at the shelter for 10 long days! The trauma that Darco experienced during this time has taken its toll on him. He was terrified, pancaking to the ground, as well as trying to chew through the leash, back out of it, and fight to get away. When we picked him up we had no idea he had a horrible infected wound on his neck. Once it was discovered, he had to be sedated so the vets could clean it up, and treat his double ear infections. He is slowly coming around, but is still VERY skittish of common everyday things. We are building his trust while we wait for his neck to heal and give him the time he needs to decompress. So stay tuned for updates on this gorgeous sable boy. Once we learn more about him we will update his bio.

Pele's Story

Hi, my name is Pele. I’m about a year and a half old female Belgian Malinois. About 5 or 6 months ago I was spotted living on my own in the desert near a construction site where new homes were being built. People tried to get me to come to them but I always ran back into the hills of the desert. Finally I was able to be trapped and VSR took me in. I’m a nice girl but particular about the people I like. But I am still adjusting to living like a domesticated dog after living on my own for so long. I still have to be spayed, but then I’ll be ready to find a forever home. I don’t ever want to live in my own in the desert again! So stay tuned! They will be updating my bio soon.

Cowboy's Story

Cowboy loves playing with other dogs his size. We think Cowboy would do best going to a home with another big balanced dog to play with and show Cowboy the social ropes.

Meet cutie-patootie, Cowboy. This little dumpling was turned in as a stray to the local shelter. As you can imagine, he’s pretty confused right now. We believe he is about 2 years old. We are letting him decompress for a few days, then we will start working on getting to know him. I can tell you that he is very sweet and takes treats very nicely. But stay tuned for more updates as we learn more!
