Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Roshi loves to play ball and has been a complete gentleman with every dog he has met so far. He prefers that dogs don’t come on too strong too quickly, as he gets a little frightened, but Roshi is just a great, well adjusted beautiful boy, looking for a forever home that won’t ever give up on him again. Are you that home? If you think Roshi would be the perfect addition to your family, please don’t hesitate to fill out our online adoption application. Jayden's Story

Meet 2 year old Jayden. Picked up as a stray, we were told Jayden had an injured back leg. After being at the shelter for 10 long days in pain, she wasn’t a fan of the people in white coats poking and prodding her. X rays showed that Jayden’s pelvis was broken in 3 different places. After 8 long weeks of crate rest, Jayden is back in action! Keeping a young, high energy dog in a crate and only being allowed out to potty on a leash is not something any dog enjoys. Now Jayden is in desperate need of a foster or foverever home. Jayden must go to an adult only home experienced with dogs with guarding issues, and can work with her on learning impulse control. Jayden also has to be the only pet in the home. Jayden is a work in progress, but this drop dead gorgeous girl will be worth every minute spent teaching her how to be a calm, balanced dog. The amount of love she has to give is infinite. If you can offer Jayden the safe, patient home she so deserves, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. She’s been through too much to settle for anything less than a long, and happy life.

Boz's Story

Meet the newest member of the VSR family! Mr. Boz. Over the course of his 7 year life, Boz has ended up in the shelter 4 times! Well all that is about to change! We will stop at nothing to find this big old boy the forever home he has always deserved! We are still getting to know him, but so far he’s been friendly with people and dogs alike. We did a senior well check on him and his thyroid levels were a little bit low, so we are starting on a low does of thyroid meds and will recheck again in a month. We will post more as we learn more about him.

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Ellie Mae's Story

Sweet 7 year old Ellie Mae was dropped off at the local kill shelter by some people who claimed they found her as a stray. It doesn’t appear she was stray for long because although she looked like she had never been brushed, she also hadn’t missed many meals. The meals she had were probably not the highest quality, because her coat shows signs of poor nutrition. Ellie Mae has a lot of life and love left to give. She’s now spayed, and we have started her on some anti-inflammatories as she had a little bit of trouble getting up off the the cold, hard floor of the shelter. Ellie Mae loves to snuggle and just sit and enjoy being outside. She showed some interest in a tennis ball , but mostly she just wants to be s close to someone. She’s very stressed out being in the kennel environment. Doesn’t Ellie Mae deserve to spend her golden years being a loved and cherished family member? If you can offer this precious girl the loving home of her dreams, please fill out our online adoption application. That gets the process started.

Stitch's Story

Stitch was dropped off at the shelter by people claiming they found him as a stray. Terrified and confused, Stitch decided that keeping people away from him was how he would deal with this horrible, scary change in his life. He’s not sure he’s ready to trust us to keep him safe just yet, so we will give him some time to decompress and then we will let him know that things are only going to get better from here on out.

Chyna's Story

Meet sweet senior Chyna! Surrendered by her family after 9 years of being a loyal companion, even though she never saw the inside of the house. All that’s changed now, and Chyna is living happily in a foster home. And who would have thought that this classic shepherd girl would live harmoniously with cats? If a cat will give a hiss and smack Chyna on the nose once, Chyna is happy to steer clear of the kitties. Chyna prefers to be the only dog in the house, and at her age, if that’s what Chyna wants, that’s what Chyna shall have. Young children aren’t anything Chyna wants to deal with either, as they can be unpredictable and kind of scary to her. If you think you have the dream home Miss Chyna has been fantasizing about all these years, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step of our adoption process. Chyna does have some arthritis at the base of her tail, but the x rays show her hips are in great shape. She easily hops up onto the furniture without any problems. We would travel around the world to give Chyna the wonderful home she deserves! So get busy, and get packing. Chyna’s ready to take on the world with her new family!

Ivan's Story

7/23/2017 UPDATE: We now believe that Ivan is ready to meet his new forever family. What Ivan is looking for is an adult only home, that has experience with large, protective dogs. Ivan needs proper introductions to new people. Trying to introduce him to a number of people all at once will overwhelm him, and cause him to regress back to his undesirable behaviors. If you have the type of home that Ivan will flourish in and would like to meet him, please fill out our online adoption application. It does not obligate you to adopt Ivan, or any of our orphans. It simply gets the process started. 6-12-2017 update: Ivan has been neutered and is settling down. Today he saw a horse and was very curious, cautious but not fearful. Of course we didn’t get too close but instead just walked across the street and behind the horse and rider until we went our separate ways. He is still proving to be very particular about the people he chooses to trust. So for now we are going to continue to work with him, and his trust issues. Please stay tuned for updates on this handsome and curious boy. Meet young Ivan. At almost 15 months, this beautiful boy is already quite the head turner. Ivan needs to be neutered, and needs some time to decompress and settle down. Once he’s had time to adjust, we will get to know more about him and post his bio.

Justice's Story

Meet 1-1 1/2 year old Justice. We pulled Justice from the shelter on the 4th of July, because, honestly, the number of animals that come through the shelter system over this holiday goes up by almost 20%! And if we didn’t pull him, the shelter would do what they have to do make room for all the lost and scared pets coming in. Justice is a happy, playful young dog, who needs a little time to warm up to strangers. He recently walked with another one of our calm male orphans and did just fine, although Justice can be quite kennel reactive when he sees other dogs while he’s in his kennel. He would benefit from basic obedience training, but is overall a beautiful, young dog, eager to have a family of his own to teach him how to be the great dog he has the potential to be. Please fill out our online adoption application to get the adoption process started for Justice or any of our deserving homeless shepherds.

Libby's Story

Meet petite Libby. Probably only a year and a half or 2 years old, Libby was picked up by Animal Control. She is terrified right now, and we recently found out she was picked up with another dog. We now have her companion in our care as well. So far these 2 dogs draw confidence from being together, and we would love to place them together in a home with no other dogs. They are timid, but very friendly and affectionate once they feel safe with you. They are on the smaller size and not super high energy, and would make great additions to most any family. Please fill out our online adoption application if you are interested in Libby or any of our orphans. It’s the first step in our adoption process.
