Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Uno's Story

UNO UPDATE 2/18/18: After a thorough examination by our veterinarians it’s been determined that although Uno’s muzzle is grey, they estimate his age to be only 3-4 years old!!! Meet Uno! VSR’s first dog of 2018! This gorgeous classic german shepherd is about 7 or 8 years old and was saved from a high kill shelter in Arizona. He’s great with other big dogs, and doesn’t seem to be interested in cats at all. However, little dogs are at the top of his NOT SO FAVORITE things. Uno has some old ear injuries, but they just add to his charming good looks. Uno has the energy of a much younger dog. He loves to explore everything he sees when he’s out walking. If you would like to meet Uno, please start the adoption process by filling out our online adoption application. Because once you take Uno home and make him part of your family, you will be his number 1!

Chyna's Story

Meet sweet senior Chyna! Surrendered by her family after 9 years of being a loyal companion, even though she never saw the inside of the house. All that’s changed now, and Chyna is living happily in a foster home. And who would have thought that this classic shepherd girl would live harmoniously with cats? If a cat will give a hiss and smack Chyna on the nose once, Chyna is happy to steer clear of the kitties. Chyna prefers to be the only dog in the house, and at her age, if that’s what Chyna wants, that’s what Chyna shall have. Young children aren’t anything Chyna wants to deal with either, as they can be unpredictable and kind of scary to her. If you think you have the dream home Miss Chyna has been fantasizing about all these years, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step of our adoption process. Chyna does have some arthritis at the base of her tail, but the x rays show her hips are in great shape. She easily hops up onto the furniture without any problems. We would travel around the world to give Chyna the wonderful home she deserves! So get busy, and get packing. Chyna’s ready to take on the world with her new family!

Hawk's Story

Meet 5 year old Hawk. The last of the breeder turned hoarder dogs that VSR was able to take in. He seems to be a little more stressed out and confused than the other dogs we brought in, so we will get him neutered, chipped and up to date on shots while we let him decompress. Then we will begin to get to know more about this beautiful boy.

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Kobe's Story

Meet Kobe. Kobe is a 5 1/2 year old male whose family became unable to give Kobe the life he deserved. The family struggled for months trying to create a home environment that Kobe was comfortable in, but ultimately it was determined that it was in Kobe’s best interest to live in a home where his anxiety would be kept to a minimum. Kobe is good with other large dogs. He will need a home without cats and young children. Kobe LOVES to have his belly rubbed and loves to play in the kiddy pool. Kobe has an eye condition called pannus that is easily managed with drops once a day. The drops cost about $45 a bottle and last 1 1/2 to 2 months. Please fill out our online adoption application if you are interested in meeting Kobe or any of our other orphans. It’s the first step in our adoption process.

Luma's Story

Meet beautiful 3 year old Luma. She is just one of 21 shepherds who were confiscated from a breeder turned hoarder situation back in December. Malnourished and filled with parasites, Luma, along with the 3 other gorgeous dogs VSR is receiving from this horrendous situation, will be spayed, chipped and up to date on shots and will be ready for adoption very soon. We will update her bio as we learn more about her. Filling out our online adoption application is the first step in our adoption process.

Jayden's Story

Meet 2 year old Jayden. Picked up as a stray, we were told Jayden had an injured back leg. After being at the shelter for 10 long days in pain, she wasn’t a fan of the people in white coats poking and prodding her. X rays showed that Jayden’s pelvis was broken in 3 different places. After 8 long weeks of crate rest, Jayden is back in action! Keeping a young, high energy dog in a crate and only being allowed out to potty on a leash is not something any dog enjoys. Now Jayden is in desperate need of a foster or foverever home. Jayden must go to an adult only home experienced with dogs with guarding issues, and can work with her on learning impulse control. Jayden also has to be the only pet in the home. Jayden is a work in progress, but this drop dead gorgeous girl will be worth every minute spent teaching her how to be a calm, balanced dog. The amount of love she has to give is infinite. If you can offer Jayden the safe, patient home she so deserves, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. She’s been through too much to settle for anything less than a long, and happy life.

Nero's Story

This drop dead gorgeous 5 year old boy is Nero. He was surrendered to the local shelter for snapping at a teenager. He has some history of anxiety, but we are going to let him decompress, get him groomed and get rid of the matted hair, then we will get to know the real dog. Nero LOVES to play frisbee and loves the kiddy pool. Nero is a typical aloof shepherd and proper doggy and human introductions are required. If you’d like to meet Nero or any of our orphans, the first step is filling out our online adoption application.

Ivan's Story

Ivan needs a skilled K9 dog handler. He may be working dog quality. Any Metro K9 officers out there willing to rehab this young, intelligent dog? He has bonded with several of our volunteers, but does not easily meet and accept new people. He certainly is not a candidate for anyone with children or those without GSD experience. Ivan has human bite records. We have worked to discern his triggers, but have not been successful. He has been in our care since May. His rehab has gone as far as we can take it with the resources available to us. We have discerned introducing him to a number of people all at once will overwhelm him, resulting in a bite. It will take multiple introductions in order for Ivan to trust. 6-12-2017 update: Ivan has been neutered and is settling down. Today he saw a horse and was very curious, cautious but not fearful. Of course we didn’t get too close but instead just walked across the street and behind the horse and rider until we went our separate ways. He is still proving to be very particular about the people he chooses to trust. So for now we are going to continue to work with him, and his trust issues. Please stay tuned for updates on this handsome and curious boy. Meet young Ivan. At almost 15 months, this beautiful boy is already quite the head turner. Ivan needs to be neutered, and needs some time to decompress and settle down. Once he’s had time to adjust, we will get to know more about him and post his bio..
