Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Chyna's Story

Meet sweet senior Chyna! Surrendered by her family after 9 years of being a loyal companion, even though she never saw the inside of the house. All that’s changed now, and Chyna is living happily in a foster home. And who would have thought that this classic shepherd girl would live harmoniously with cats? If a cat will give a hiss and smack Chyna on the nose once, Chyna is happy to steer clear of the kitties. Chyna prefers to be the only dog in the house, and at her age, if that’s what Chyna wants, that’s what Chyna shall have. Young children aren’t anything Chyna wants to deal with either, as they can be unpredictable and kind of scary to her. If you think you have the dream home Miss Chyna has been fantasizing about all these years, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step of our adoption process. Chyna does have some arthritis at the base of her tail, but the x rays show her hips are in great shape. She easily hops up onto the furniture without any problems. We would travel around the world to give Chyna the wonderful home she deserves! So get busy, and get packing. Chyna’s ready to take on the world with her new family!

Cowboy's Story

Cowboy loves playing with other dogs his size. We think Cowboy would do best going to a home with another big balanced dog to play with and show Cowboy the social ropes.

Meet cutie-patootie, Cowboy. This little dumpling was turned in as a stray to the local shelter. As you can imagine, he’s pretty confused right now. We believe he is about 2 years old. We are letting him decompress for a few days, then we will start working on getting to know him. I can tell you that he is very sweet and takes treats very nicely. But stay tuned for more updates as we learn more!

Yoshi's Story

By no fault of his own, Yoshi is being returned. Yoshi is a 4.5 year old male – the perfect age for any GSD. He would do best as the only dog in the home. He plays too rough for children under the age of 8 yo. He loves to meet new people. Yoshi enjoys leash walks, hikes and makes a great running partner. His favorite pastime is playing fetch with his green bone or a frisbee. If you are an active family and looking for a mature boy, Yoshi is your guy! He’s available after 12/31 for meet and greets. http://www.vegasshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application/

************************

History: Meet 13 month old Yoshi. This gorgeous boy needed a place to go when his elderly owner became ill and was unable to care for him. He was bounced around to a few different people who offered to take him without thinking about what a young, very active shepherd really needs. He ended up at a doggy day care and that’s when VSR was notified. Yoshi plays with dogs his own size like most young dogs do. Rough and tumbling. Yoshi loves the hose and the kiddy pool. He is also very affectionate, but has no idea how big he really is. It would be best for Yoshi to go to a home with no small children, just because of his energy and size. He also is not a fan of the small critters. Other dogs his size seem to be his preference. If you think this gorgeous boy is just what the doctor ordered, start the adoption process by filling out our online adoption application. Yoshi has been bounced too many times already, it’s time for him to settle in for the long haul with his true forever family.

Cheyenne's Story

UPDATE 3/5/2019. It’s been a long wait, but Cheyenne was finally healthy enough to get spayed. She’s up to 61 pounds and she’s looking like a million bucks! We believe Cheyenne is only about 2 years old, and by the looks of things, we doubt she has had any training at all. She is very food motivated, and we are working on her doggy manners. Cheyenne is very people friendly. She has shown us when we are out for walks that she enjoys the company of respectful, well behaved children. She has walked with other big dogs, and once her initial excitement wears off, she is fine in the company of other dogs. We will continue to work with her until her forever family is found. Filling our our online adoption application is the first step in our adoption process. Full of milk with no puppies to be found, Miss Cheyenne was dumped at the shelter severely underweight and infected with parasites. Cheyenne is in need of some medical attention, as well as needing to gain some weight before it’s safe to spay this friendly, energetic girl. She happily offered us sits when she knew there were treats to be had. Cheyenne will need some time to get adoption ready, but in the meantime, we will get to know more about this petite little peanut. So stay tuned for more updates.

Gunther “Gunny”'s Story

Update July 1, 2018: Gunther has a ball drive that is hard to even imagine unless you see him in action. That being said, it’s not surprising that Gunny has guarding issues with his ball. Because of his high drive, energy and guarding, Gunther needs to go to a home with teenage kids or adult only home. He does best without other dogs. Meet handsome 3 year old Gunther. Gunther came to us after being returned to the local shelter for putting his mouth on somebody’s arm. He then developed a hematoma on his neuter site and had to have an additional surgery to correct it. He is healing nicely and we are getting to know more about this beautiful boy. We will update his bio when we know more.

Pele's Story

UPDATE 1/28/2019. Pele came through her spay surgery with flying colors! She has become more comfortable and her true personality is showing itself. Pele has a ball drive for days! She isn’t familiar with the meaning of being tired. She prefers to be an only dog and CANNOT live in a home with cats or other small critters that she might perceive as prey. She has recently started showing protective behaviors around her favorite people. Pele will need to go to a breed experienced family that knows how to manage her protective behavior.

Hi, my name is Pele. I’m about a year and a half old female Belgian Malinois. About 5 or 6 months ago I was spotted living on my own in the desert near a construction site where new homes were being built. People tried to get me to come to them but I always ran back into the hills of the desert. Finally I was able to be trapped and VSR took me in. I’m a nice girl but particular about the people I like. But I am still adjusting to living like a domesticated dog after living on my own for so long. I still have to be spayed, but then I’ll be ready to find a forever home. I don’t ever want to live in my own in the desert again! So stay tuned! They will be updating my bio soon.

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Archie's Story

UPDATE 3/5/19! Archie has recovered from his neuter surgery and we are getting to know more about this big ole’ boy. Archie likes to play with toys, and will bring them back to you. He doesn’t seem to have had any type of training, but he walks nicely on the leash. He likes to lean against your legs, and his tail wags so hard it stings when it hits your thighs. He is pretty interested in other dogs, and maybe a bit too interested, but we are working on that. Archie is ready to find his forever home, so don’t dilly dally. Get your adoption applications in ASAP! This boy won’t be around for long. If you want a dog that is going to turn heads when you’re out and about, take a look at VSR’s newest orphan, Archie! This gorgeous, unique boy is probably under 2 years old. His coat is shorter than a typical shepherd and has brindle highlights. His ears seem to go up halfway and then flop over, but that could be because he was still doped up from his neuter when we picked him up yesterday. Once he has a chance to recover a few days from his neuter, and get his mouth checked out (he may need some dental work) we will get to know this big ole boy, and post an updated bio, so stay tuned and don’t touch that dial!

Shamrock's Story

SHAMROCK NEEDS THE LUCK OF A 4 LEAF CLOVER!! Please help us help her! Say hello to beautiful 3 year old Shamrock! This sweet, affectionate girl was recently turned into the shelter by her family stating she had been hit by a car. She sat at the shelter for a week before we were able to get her out. Even though her back leg is completely useless, dangling because her femur was broken, this precious girl was so happy and friendly, giving kisses and seeking attention from everyone she met. After sending her xrays to an orthopedic surgeon, we were told this break happened MONTHS AGO! Why was she allowed to suffer for so long? Obviously her leg cannot be saved and she will be having surgery to amputate it on Thursday the 21st. We need to raise $2100 for her surgery so Shamrock can start her new life free of pain and all the extra dead weight of her useless limb. Shamrock also will need a foster home to go to where she can recover from her surgery. Once she’s medically cleared, her foster will have first right of refusal to adopt this amazing girl! Can you help us help her? Fill out our foster application or donate towards her surgery? No amount is too small! Let’s make sure Shamrock gets the luck of the Irish! It’s time for her luck to change!

Myla's Story

Meet Myla. This 6 yo beauty is losing the only home she’s ever known. Myla was adopted by her dad when she was a puppy. She had a hard time coping since Dad married and started having a family. Now that another baby is on the way, Myla has become very protective, especially of her mom. Myla does not like other female dogs, but lives happily with a male Great Dane. Myla acts like a 2 yo! She has tons of energy and needs daily walks, hikes and can play ball all day long! Myla needs an experienced GSD home without small children, no female dogs and lots of energy. Couch potatoes need not apply. She knows basic commands and is not destructive. She will bark and alert to strangers but settles down once she knows the situation is okay. Myla has been well cared for and knows only love. She would benefit from additional training using positive reinforcement. And we can’t stress enough that this girl needs consistent, daily exercise. She is very smart and eager to learn new things.

Fantasia/Fanny's Story

UPDATE 9/17/18: Sweet Fanny is once again available for adoption. She was returned recently through no fault of her own. Fanny is a medium energy, petite little shepherd who loves to snuggle on the couch and likes to go for walks. She also loves to zoom around in the yard, showing her playful side. She need to be an only dog, and in a home with no small children as she has some food guarding issues that we are still working on with her. She’s getting better every day, but we think it’s better to be safe than sorry. Are you Fanny’s forever home? She still looking. Waiting patiently.

UPDATE 6/5/17: Our sweet Fanny is still with us! As we have gotten to know more about her, we feel it’s best that Fantasia be the only dog in the house. Having been tied up to the point of having a collar deeply embedded in her neck, she was obviously unable to escape interacting with other dogs whether she wanted to or not. Having been through at least one heat cycle being tethered, it may have had an impact on the way she relates to other dogs. If you have a home free of other pets, sweet Fanny just might be the dog for you.

UPDATE 4/26/17: VSR orphan and Miracle GSD Network dog, Fantasia was spayed on Monday and is recovering nicely. As you can see her neck has completely healed up. She is now ready to start living again. She’s still a little bit timid and unsure when you touch her on certain parts of her body, but she’s a sweet girl and vet clinic favorite. She was not reactive at all towards any of the dogs we saw in the lobby either. We will continue to get to know more about he and update her bio as we learn more. Miracle Dog and VSR orphan Fantasia is doing great! Her neck is healing really well and won’t need to be surgically closed. She is scheduled to be spayed on Monday, so stay tuned for more Fanny updates!

Snickers's Story

2-10-19 UPDATE!! Snickers is now in a foster home, living with a female shepherd and a male golden doodle. She absolutely adores her foster dad! She is wicked smart, and seems to like respectful older kids. Her interest in cats might be a little too much, and a cat-free home would be best for Miss Snickers. She is extremely high energy, and a 4 mile run each day barely takes the edge off her energy.

Meet beautiful Snickers. Thought to be about 3 years old, sweet Snickers was found in the front yard of an animal lover, who went to great lengths to find her owners. Snickers was in pretty rough shape and was very scared and skittish, but since coming into VSR’s care, Snickers has come out of her shell, and is learning to trust. We were just recently able to spay her, as she was in heat when we brought her in. Snickers has been diagnosed with pannus, an eye condition that is easily managed with eye drops. She now takes her daily walks with one of our male VSR orphans, and does fine with him. If you think you have the loving, patient home Snickers needs, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step in our adoption process.
