Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Cowboy's Story

Cowboy loves playing with other dogs his size. We think Cowboy would do best going to a home with another big balanced dog to play with and show Cowboy the social ropes.

Meet cutie-patootie, Cowboy. This little dumpling was turned in as a stray to the local shelter. As you can imagine, he’s pretty confused right now. We believe he is about 2 years old. We are letting him decompress for a few days, then we will start working on getting to know him. I can tell you that he is very sweet and takes treats very nicely. But stay tuned for more updates as we learn more!

Gunther “Gunny”'s Story

Update July 1, 2018: Gunther has a ball drive that is hard to even imagine unless you see him in action. That being said, it’s not surprising that Gunny has guarding issues with his ball. Because of his high drive, energy and guarding, Gunther needs to go to a home with teenage kids or adult only home. He does best without other dogs. Meet handsome 3 year old Gunther. Gunther came to us after being returned to the local shelter for putting his mouth on somebody’s arm. He then developed a hematoma on his neuter site and had to have an additional surgery to correct it. He is healing nicely and we are getting to know more about this beautiful boy. We will update his bio when we know more.

Linus's Story

Through no fault of his own, fluffy Linus is back in our care. He’s pretty stressed out and may do best as an only dog. We will post updates as we know more.

Meet fluffy, young (around a year old) Linus. This big puppy was picked up as a stray. Put on the dreaded list because he was favoring one of his front legs. By the time we got him, the lameness had resolved itself. Linus still needs to be neutered and we still need to get to know him, so stay tuned and don’t touch that dial. We will be posting a more detailed bio as soon as we know more.

Chyna's Story

Meet sweet senior Chyna! Surrendered by her family after 9 years of being a loyal companion, even though she never saw the inside of the house. All that’s changed now, and Chyna is living happily in a foster home. And who would have thought that this classic shepherd girl would live harmoniously with cats? If a cat will give a hiss and smack Chyna on the nose once, Chyna is happy to steer clear of the kitties. Chyna prefers to be the only dog in the house, and at her age, if that’s what Chyna wants, that’s what Chyna shall have. Young children aren’t anything Chyna wants to deal with either, as they can be unpredictable and kind of scary to her. If you think you have the dream home Miss Chyna has been fantasizing about all these years, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step of our adoption process. Chyna does have some arthritis at the base of her tail, but the x rays show her hips are in great shape. She easily hops up onto the furniture without any problems. We would travel around the world to give Chyna the wonderful home she deserves! So get busy, and get packing. Chyna’s ready to take on the world with her new family!

Snickers's Story

Meet beautiful Snickers. Thought to be about 3 years old, sweet Snickers was found in the front yard of an animal lover, who went to great lengths to find her owners. Snickers was in pretty rough shape and was very scared and skittish, but since coming into VSR’s care, Snickers has come out of her shell, and is learning to trust. We were just recently able to spay her, as she was in heat when we brought her in. Snickers has been diagnosed with pannus, an eye condition that is easily managed with eye drops. She now takes her daily walks with one of our male VSR orphans, and does fine with him. If you think you have the loving, patient home Snickers needs, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step in our adoption process.

Pele's Story

Hi, my name is Pele. I’m about a year and a half old female Belgian Malinois. About 5 or 6 months ago I was spotted living on my own in the desert near a construction site where new homes were being built. People tried to get me to come to them but I always ran back into the hills of the desert. Finally I was able to be trapped and VSR took me in. I’m a nice girl but particular about the people I like. But I am still adjusting to living like a domesticated dog after living on my own for so long. I still have to be spayed, but then I’ll be ready to find a forever home. I don’t ever want to live in my own in the desert again! So stay tuned! They will be updating my bio soon.

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Fantasia/Fanny's Story

UPDATE 9/17/18: Sweet Fanny is once again available for adoption. She was returned recently through no fault of her own. Fanny is a medium energy, petite little shepherd who loves to snuggle on the couch and likes to go for walks. She also loves to zoom around in the yard, showing her playful side. She need to be an only dog, and in a home with no small children as she has some food guarding issues that we are still working on with her. She’s getting better every day, but we think it’s better to be safe than sorry. Are you Fanny’s forever home? She still looking. Waiting patiently.

UPDATE 6/5/17: Our sweet Fanny is still with us! As we have gotten to know more about her, we feel it’s best that Fantasia be the only dog in the house. Having been tied up to the point of having a collar deeply embedded in her neck, she was obviously unable to escape interacting with other dogs whether she wanted to or not. Having been through at least one heat cycle being tethered, it may have had an impact on the way she relates to other dogs. If you have a home free of other pets, sweet Fanny just might be the dog for you.

UPDATE 4/26/17: VSR orphan and Miracle GSD Network dog, Fantasia was spayed on Monday and is recovering nicely. As you can see her neck has completely healed up. She is now ready to start living again. She’s still a little bit timid and unsure when you touch her on certain parts of her body, but she’s a sweet girl and vet clinic favorite. She was not reactive at all towards any of the dogs we saw in the lobby either. We will continue to get to know more about he and update her bio as we learn more. Miracle Dog and VSR orphan Fantasia is doing great! Her neck is healing really well and won’t need to be surgically closed. She is scheduled to be spayed on Monday, so stay tuned for more Fanny updates!

Opie's Story

UPDATE 10/21/18. Unfortunately, Through no fault of his own, Opie has been returned to VSR. Our little man came back looking wonderful! His coat is clean, soft and very shiny! He’s developed a very lean and muscular physique! Opie lived with 4 kids under the age of 6, and did great with them. He can be very particular with other dogs. Opie was a huge hit at our big event recently. If you are interested in meeting Opie and possibly making him a permanent member of your family, please fill out our online adoption application!

Meet VSR ‘s latest faux shepherd, or fepherd, Opie. This little 2 year old shepherd mix peanut came into the local shelter with wounds covering both his back legs. Was he hit by a car? Attacked by another dog? We may never know. But what we do know is that this little 40 lb bundle of joy is a sweet, happy dog no matter what. He’s still recovering from his neuter surgery and his wounds are healing nicely. Once he’s ready, we will get to know more about him and post an update.

Pixie's Story

Hi, my name is Pixie and I’m a beautiful girl whose had a not-so-great life so far. I’ve lived outside in conditions that weren’t very good, and was surrendered to Animal Control just because my family didn’t want me anymore. So I was taken away in a scary truck to the shelter. While I was there, I was terrified and would sit or lay with my head in the corner of the kennel. Then the VSR people came to get me. I’m still very scared but today I wagged my tail when they brought me some chicken to eat. I am not using one of my back legs right now, but the nice doctor is going to look at it tomorrow to check it for an injury. Right now I’m still learning that people and new places are nice and I have air conditioning and good food to eat while I recover from my spay surgery. When I feel better, I’ll get to know the nice VSR folks so they can post my bio. But look at my big beautiful ears! I know I’m a very pretty girl. So stay tuned.

UPDATE!! Precious Pixie has a severely FRACTURED PELVIS! How she can continue to be so sweet and affectionate while tolerating the pain is a mystery. We are consulting with the specialists to figure out what our course of action is going to be. But no matter what, this timid girl is going to need a place to crash while she heals. A foster home with lots of crate rest is a must. If you can offer little Pixie a loving, calm home to recover in, please fill out our online foster, or better yet adoption application. It’s the first step in our process.

Armani's Story

9/17/18 UPDATE: Now that I have been with VSR a while, they have learned that although I won’t share my home with other females, I would like a nice, submissive, male dog to push around, oh, I mean play with. As long as boy will let me be in charge, we can have lots of fun playing together. I do need a proper introduction to my possible boy toys though. Do you have the experienced home I’m looking for, because I’m still waiting for my forever home.

Hi, My name is Armani, and I can tell you the last couple months of my life have been really stressful and confusing for me. I was dropped off at a local shelter, where I was very scared. Luckily I got out alive and was put into a home, but that home had other big female dogs, and I just didn’t do well there. I like being the only princess in the home. I ended up at another shelter until finally Vegas Shepherd Rescue was able to rescue me. I was SOOOO happy to get out of there. I danced and jumped and even had a chance to roll around in some soft, wet, cool grass! I need to put on some weight, and I have an ear infection that is being treated. The VSR folks are still getting to know more about what I like and don’t like. It’s possible I may be shepherd/ Belgian Malinois mix, so an experienced home will be a must for my adoptive home. Stay tuned as VSR learns more about me and post updates to my story.
