Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Venice's Story

Beautiful 3-4 year old Venice was confiscated by Animal Control and held at the local shelter for 10 days before VSR was able to express interest in pulling her. Once she was spayed we went to go get her, and she has been the sweetest, most playful, friendly girl, just happy to be free. We are getting to know more about her and will post a bio once we do.

Ellie Mae's Story

Sweet 7 year old Ellie Mae was dropped off at the local kill shelter by some people who claimed they found her as a stray. It doesn’t appear she was stray for long because although she looked like she had never been brushed, she also hadn’t missed many meals. The meals she had were probably not the highest quality, because her coat shows signs of poor nutrition. Ellie Mae has a lot of life and love left to give. She’s now spayed, and we have started her on some anti-inflammatories as she had a little bit of trouble getting up off the the cold, hard floor of the shelter. Ellie Mae loves to snuggle and just sit and enjoy being outside. She showed some interest in a tennis ball , but mostly she just wants to be s close to someone. She’s very stressed out being in the kennel environment. Doesn’t Ellie Mae deserve to spend her golden years being a loved and cherished family member? If you can offer this precious girl the loving home of her dreams, please fill out our online adoption application. That gets the process started.

Kobe's Story

Meet Kobe. Kobe is a 5 1/2 year old male whose family became unable to give Kobe the life he deserved. The family struggled for months trying to create a home environment that Kobe was comfortable in, but ultimately it was determined that it was in Kobe’s best interest to live in a home where his anxiety would be kept to a minimum. Kobe is good with other large dogs. He will need a home without cats and young children. Kobe LOVES to have his belly rubbed and loves to play in the kiddy pool. Please fill out our online adoption application if you are interested in meeting Kobe or any of our other orphans. It’s the first step in our adoption process.

Laguna's Story

Meet beautiful 3 year old Laguna. Laguna was picked up as a stray recently by Animal Contol. Her family never came looking for her. Being a typical shepherd, she was very scared in the shelter. So she did the only thing she knew to do that she thought would ensure her survival. She acted crazy aggressive to keep the scary people and other dogs away. Once she trusted me enough to let me leash her up she was fine. She was even wagging her tail by the time we arrived at the vets office. She did not react to any of the dogs she saw in the lobby, but she is still pretty confused about everything that has happened to her, so we will let her chill out and figure out that she is safe and loved. Then we will get to know more about her and post her bio.

Gilligan's Story

Please say hello to VSR’s newest heartthrob, Gilligan. This handsome guy was not going to let anybody get anywhere near him once AC was able to wrangle him into their care. When we reached out to the shelter to request him, they asked us to come and meet him before we committed. Fear is an ugly thing, and will make even the most balanced dogs do things they wouldn’t normally do. But we have learned that dogs need time to let themselves trust and build a bond with us after they go through the horrifying experience of going through the shelter system. So we are taking our time, and letting Gilligan figure out that it’s only going to get better from here. Gilligan has been great walking with some of the other big dogs he’s met. He’s been friendly meeting strangers. He’s playful and happy! If you would like to bring this big old goofball into your heart and home, please fill out our online adoption application. Gilligan is ready to get off this island and find his Skipper!

Nero's Story

This drop dead gorgeous 5 year old boy is Nero. He’s new to VSR. He was surrendered to the local shelter for snapping at a teenager. He has some history of anxiety, but we are going to let him decompress, get him groomed and get rid of the matted hair, then we will get to know the real dog. Nero LOVES to play frisbee and loves the kiddy pool. Proper doggy introductions are required. He’s still settling in with us but we are learning more about him daily. If you’d like to meet Nero or any of our orphans, the first step is filling out our online adoption application.

Chyna's Story

Meet sweet senior Chyna! Surrendered by her family after 9 years of being a loyal companion, even though she never saw the inside of the house. All that’s changed now, and Chyna is living happily in a foster home. And who would have thought that this classic shepherd girl would live harmoniously with cats? If a cat will give a hiss and smack Chyna on the nose once, Chyna is happy to steer clear of the kitties. Chyna prefers to be the only dog in the house, and at her age, if that’s what Chyna wants, that’s what Chyna shall have. Young children aren’t anything Chyna wants to deal with either, as they can be unpredictable and kind of scary to her. If you think you have the dream home Miss Chyna has been fantasizing about all these years, please fill out our online adoption application. It’s the first step of our adoption process. Chyna does have some arthritis at the base of her tail, but the x rays show her hips are in great shape. She easily hops up onto the furniture without any problems. We would travel around the world to give Chyna the wonderful home she deserves! So get busy, and get packing. Chyna’s ready to take on the world with her new family!

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Anchor's Story

Meet VSR’s newest sweet senior shepherd mix, 10 year old Anchor. Anchor’s time was up at the local kill shelter and we couldn’t look the other way and let her die scared and alone. We can only guess what this low-rider ball of fluff is mixed with. Anchor is in a foster home with a calm male lab mix and is just a happy, easy, low maintenance dog. If you can give Anchor her forever home to spend her days, please fill out our online adoption application. Once you meet this sweet low rider, her sweetness will anchor her to your heart. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

Jayden's Story

Meet 2 year old Jayden. Picked up as a stray, we were told Jayden had an injured back leg. After being at the shelter for 10 long days in pain, she wasn’t a fan of the people in white coats poking and prodding her. X rays showed that Jayden’s pelvis was broken in 3 different places. After 8 long weeks of crate rest, Jayden is back in action! Keeping a young, high energy dog in a crate and only being allowed out to potty on a leash is not something any dog enjoys. Now Jayden is in desperate need of a foster or foverever home. Jayden must go to an adult only home experienced with dogs with guarding issues, and can work with her on learning impulse control. Jayden also has to be the only pet in the home. Jayden is a work in progress, but this drop dead gorgeous girl will be worth every minute spent teaching her how to be a calm, balanced dog. The amount of love she has to give is infinite. If you can offer Jayden the safe, patient home she so deserves, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. She’s been through too much to settle for anything less than a long, and happy life.

Ivan's Story

7/23/2017 UPDATE: We now believe that Ivan is ready to meet his new forever family. What Ivan is looking for is an adult only home, that has experience with large, protective dogs. Ivan needs proper introductions to new people. Trying to introduce him to a number of people all at once will overwhelm him, and cause him to regress back to his undesirable behaviors. If you have the type of home that Ivan will flourish in and would like to meet him, please fill out our online adoption application. It does not obligate you to adopt Ivan, or any of our orphans. It simply gets the process started. 6-12-2017 update: Ivan has been neutered and is settling down. Today he saw a horse and was very curious, cautious but not fearful. Of course we didn’t get too close but instead just walked across the street and behind the horse and rider until we went our separate ways. He is still proving to be very particular about the people he chooses to trust. So for now we are going to continue to work with him, and his trust issues. Please stay tuned for updates on this handsome and curious boy. Meet young Ivan. At almost 15 months, this beautiful boy is already quite the head turner. Ivan needs to be neutered, and needs some time to decompress and settle down. Once he’s had time to adjust, we will get to know more about him and post his bio.

Gilli's Story

Meet 1.5 year old Gilli. Gilli was turned into the shelter by her family. We aren’t sure why, but judging from her behavior, we don’t think she was socialized at all. She’s startled by many things and reactive while on leash. But she’s also a very happy, active and playful girl. Small critters are WAY too tempting for her, so she’ll need to go to a home without little dogs or cats. We’re working on her leash reactivity as we get to know more about her. So stay tuned for more info!
