Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$375, with $325 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Ellie Mae's Story

Sweet 7 year old Ellie Mae was dropped off at the local kill shelter by some people who claimed they found her as a stray. It doesn’t appear she was stray for long because although she looked like she had never been brushed, she also hadn’t missed many meals. The meals she had were probably not the highest quality, because her coat shows signs of poor nutrition. Ellie Mae has a lot of life and love left to give. She’s now spayed, and we have started her on some anti-inflammatories as she had a little bit of trouble getting up off the the cold, hard floor of the shelter. Ellie Mae loves to snuggle and just sit and enjoy being outside. She showed some interest in a tennis ball , but mostly she just wants to be s close to someone. She’s very stressed out being in the kennel environment. Doesn’t Ellie Mae deserve to spend her golden years being a loved and cherished family member? If you can offer this precious girl the loving home of her dreams, please fill out our online adoption application. That gets the process started.

Mini's Story

Meet 1 1/2-2 year old Mini. Picked up as a stray, this happy-go-lucky 96 pound girl just couldn’t get out of the shelter fast enough. And when you weigh that much and are that determined, there wasn’t much going to stop her from getting out those shelter doors. We don’t know too much about her yet but we do know she doesn’t know any strangers. She loves everyone she’s met so far. Mini absolutely adores babies and young kids! This gigantic girl is so gentle, it will blow you away. What we did notice is that Mini tried to claim the kids and would put herself in between the resident dog and the babies almost immediately after meeting them. So if your home is missing the huge heart of a big dog with a little dog name, then Mini is your girl! Get busy filling out that adoption application, because once the word gets out about Mini, the number of apps we receive for her will be many!

Beowulf's Story

Meet young Beowulf. Thought to be only about a year old, this big puppy has had a rough start in life. Most of his hair has fallen out, his feet are extremely swollen and cracked and he’s very underweight. Our doctors diagnosed him with demodex mange. But that doesn’t stop Beowulf from being a friendly, happy and sweet boy. He’s well on his way to being healthy. Once he’s neutered, we will get to know more about him and then post a more detailed bio.

After being at the shelter for 10 long days in pain, she hasn’t been a fan of the people in white coats poking and prodding her. We are going to let her decompress (with some pain meds) and will get her spayed and feeling good. Then we will get to know her and post her bio.

Stash's Story

Meet handsome young Stash. Stash was picked up by Animal Control along with a beautiful young female. Stash is a big boy, in need of basic doggy manners, as he really likes to jump. But that’s an easy fix! Our sweet boy, Stash came to us with some sort of substance on his coat that had dried hard, and stuck the hair to his skin. After multiple attempts to remove it with Dawn soap and then canola oil were unsuccessful, and Stash was letting us know it was painful, the vets had to sedate him and shave the fur, only to find that the substance had irritated his skin to the point of an infection. Stash was immediately put on pain meds and antibiotics, and is now on his way to feeling like a million bucks. And to add insult to injury, he also developed a hematoma at his neuter site after he arrived at our vet clinic. So this poor guy has had a rough couple of weeks, but the whole time he’s been nothing but a young, playful (and jumpy, but we are working on that) dog. He walks nicely in the leash until he sees a rabbit, then its game on. He needs to gain some weight, and he will be a nice, tall boy. If you are interested in meeting Stash, the first step in our adoption process is to fill out our online adoption application. It doesn’t obligate you to adopt him or any of our orphans. It simply gets the ball rolling, should you choose to adopt from us now or in the future.

Fantasia/Fanny's Story

Meet petite Fantasia. This little pocket sized shepherd came to the local kill shelter with a wound conducive of having a rope or chain collar embedded into her neck. How could we turn our back on this little dumpling dog, who, as you can see by the pictures, has not given up on humans? With the help of the GSD Miracle Network, we were able to raise the money needed to make sure she gets the best care possible. Fantasia was happy to give kisses, and wanted to be included in the discussion concerning her treatment plan. ( and this is one of the many reasons we love the doctors at Craig Road Animal Hospital! They are always happy and willing to discuss the options concerning the care and treatment of the dogs.) The treatment plan that was agreed upon was to give Fantasia a couple of days to see how her wound responds and starts to heal before she is put under anesthesia for her spay. If the wound can heal without having to surgically close it, of course that is the route we will take. The other concern was how to keep Fanny from leaving her spay incision alone, once the surgery is performed, as she obviously is unable to wear a cone. So while we let this little pixie shepherd begin to heal physically and emotionally from her former life, we will show her all the goodness we can and let her know she will never be hurt like this again. Then we will post her bio. So stay tuned. There’s more to come of the story of Fantasia.

Inka's Story

Meet beautiful, little Inka. Another shepherd turned into the shelter as a stray. Inka recently had a litter of puppies. A baby having babies. This petite peanut was terrified out of her mind at the shelter. How could we turn our backs on her, when she thought the world was a horrible, scary place? We will let her settle in and decompress before we write her bio.

Arrow lived with a small dog and a 5 year old child. She’s a beauty. When she met a medium large size male dog, she pretty much ignored him. We are still getting to know her, and will post a more detailed bio once she opens up to us.

Seiko's Story

Stunning Seiko is approximately 4 years old. He was adopted from the local shelter almost a year ago. Once out of the shelter, his previous family made numerous attempts to rehome him. Can you imagine living in a home for almost a year knowing you weren’t wanted? This sweet, calm boy is so confused and stressed out; he has no idea what he did or why he wasn’t wanted. We can’t find a thing wrong with this gorgeous boy. He is constantly looking to his person for approval when on leash. And this boy LOVES to go for walks. So far he hasn’t shown any interest in toys, but he may not be comfortable enough yet to let his guard down and be happy. He met an adult male shepherd and a female beagle, both without any reaction at all. He met 2 very young children, again, with no reaction. With his willingness to please and his desire for approval, we think Seiko is going to be an amazing dog for any family willing to show him the patience and love he deserves. Imagine how happy it will make him when you say to him, “God boy, Seiko!” And he knows you mean it. It’s time for Seiko’s world to change. So don’t waste any time and get your online adoption application filled out and submitted. Will you be the family to watch Seiko blossom into the sensitive, loving dog he truly is? He will give back to you hours of unconditional love every single day.

Karbon's Story

This big, beautiful boy is Karbon. Picked up as a stray by Animal Control, the shelter listed him as 10 years old. Whether or not that is accurate, we can’t be sure. Karbon is very anxious and nervous, but will run and play if you actively engage him. During his first few nights at our vet clinic, Karbon had a seizure. He broke a few of his toenails during the episode, but has not had another seizure, so we are holding off on putting him on anti seizure meds for now. Karbon also does very poorly in a kennel or crate, and is more relaxed when loose in the home. Karbon did fine with another large dog when walked on leash together. Karbon is in need of a very patient and understanding foster or forever home. He is drop dead gorgeous, and we know that he, just like every other VSR orphan, deserves a home where his life will be changed forever. If you are interested in committing to giving Karbon the home he’s been waiting for, please fill out our online adoption or foster application. It’s the first step of our process.

Nickel's Story

We think that the introduction of this beautiful 2 year old girl deserves a drum roll…………..What’s so special about this particular dog, you might ask? Every dog is special. But this is Nickel. And Nickel just happens to be the 500th dog that VSR has played a part in saving. It’s just a few months shy of the 5 year anniversary of VSR saving our first shepherd. There are really no words to describe the rewarding feeling of saving even one dog, so trying to wrap our heads around this number is truly overwhelming. But the truth is, without such a caring and dedicated community to support us and our work, we never could have made it to this milestone. We also have to acknowledge everything Miracle GSD Network has done to support us along the way. They have been instrumental in VSR being able to save some of the major medical dogs that needed help. So welcome to the VSR family, precious Nickel. You are special, just because you are you. Once we get to know more about Nickel, we will post her bio.
