Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$400, with $350 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Luke & Leia's Story

New bonded pair Luke and Leia:

Luke(m) and Leia(f) are about 4 years old and came from our local shelter.
These two did a couple of stints at the shelter when they somehow ended up running the streets.  Intensely bonded, these two 4 yr old pups do everything together from eating to playing to sleeping.   They experience a great amount of stress when separated so we are trying to keep them together.  We believe them to be littermates.  Leia will bust out of a kennel to get to Luke even if side by side.
So far, we could not adore these two wild and silly dogs any more.   They are so much fun.  Lots of great energy and they love love love to play.  So far they seem to love any kind of toys and chasing each other playfully.  They have lots of energy and tend to run amok through the house without exercise.   We have not done dog testing yet but we do know they weren’t friendly to a poodle when running loose as young pups in 2018.   Further testing will be done as they wind down a bit and get used to their new environment.  So far they seem to like most new humans friends they’ve encountered.   These two might be a bit much for smaller children only because of their playful exuberance.
Follow Luke and Leias story as we try to bring a little of the Force to their lives and find them a place to stay together always.

Pearl's Story

Shy little Pearl who’s daddy passed away, is in a foster home learning life is OK again.
So far she’s starting to come out of her shell and explore her foster home and interact with her foster parents.   No longer hiding in her safe space, she prefers to lay in the middle of the living room where she can see life around her.  She’s done well with a kitty sibling so far, even taking cues when kitty says back off.
She’s starting to learn what its like to be a pup again and gets super excited when its time to take up and see her humans in the morning.  She always does her business outside and even learned to go to the door to ask to be let out.
She loves chicken and will do anything for a bit of yummy stuff.  She’s treat motivated and knows a few commands so far.  She walks well on a harness and even moves into heel position.  So far her foster parents say she’s an all around good girl.   She was picked on by her pack mate but would do well with a calm, confident packmate to guide her rather than bully her.

Benny's Story

Benny update:

3 yr old Benny is an absolutely gorgeous GSD
This handsome devil was trained by Club K9 and has great obedience for a confident handler  He still needs work on his own confidence from all the changes in his life.  He can be wary and even reactive to humans he feels uncomfortable with.   For those he bonds with, he’s an absolute love bug but also very protective.  He seems to be more comfortable with female humans but has warmed up to a few of our male volunteers over time.
He enjoys playing ball, going on walks and car rides, and playing with his favorite humans.   He’s been a bit reactive to other dogs but enjoys playing run and chase along the fence line with some non reactive dogs.  Benny will need an experienced owner to help guide him into a more confident way of existing.    Because of his tendency to protect or be reactive, small children would not be recommended for him.
This good boy was surrendered by his owners when they had to move.  He deserves a happily ever after where he will get to learn to be the very best pup he can be.

Rosie's Story

7 yr old Rosie, who came to us when her daddy passed away is doing so much better.
She is a sweet girl who bonds to her humans and gets super excited to see the ones she loves.  She shows her joy by hopping all over the place and spinning and making cute noises.
She is fully potty trained and kennel trained.   She likes to play with her humans but doesn’t seem to have much interest in toys.  She did well meeting large calm dogs her size so far.  She does get intimidated by strong energy, whether its from someone 4 legged or two.   She’s still a bit shy with some people but getting better day by day.  She’s got a beautiful spirit and is calm and relaxed.  She likes to run the fence barking and wagging her tail at the other dogs.
Rosie would love a calm home where she gets walks and car rides and snuggles with her humans.  She wants to be by your side as much as possible and a part of whatever it is your doing.   This very special girl grew up with children and would likely do well in a family.

Flash's Story

This adorable, petite, 5 yr old male Flash has so many kisses to give when he trusts you.  He even nibbles on your chin while he does it!  He’s super quirky and proving to be tons of fun to get to know.  He was born without a tail and has the cutest stubby ever!
He is friendly to other dogs and has lived with children, but older children are best for him.   He’s kennel trained and potty trained and seems to be an all around calm, good boy so far.  He is a bit shy and aloof in the beginning but has already started to show lots of love and affection to our core volunteers.  He walks well on a leash and is not reactive to other dogs or humans so far.   He’s starting to show interest in toys and be more curious about his environment.
He just started having the cutest zoomies and showing interest in playtime.  His sweet personality has us looking forward to getting to know him better.

Saber's Story

3 year old Saber recently came to us from our local shelter.   Saber has EPI, a condition Shepherds can get that affects the enzymes in the pancreas.  It is controlled with enzymes in his meals which he will need for his entire life.

Saber is a happy boy with lots of love to give.  He is currently in a foster home where he is getting to heal and have his body rebalance from his condition being untreated.
Saber is good with other dogs and, so far, friendly to humans he meets.  We will be getting to know him better and update his bio as we learn about him from his foster.
You don’t want to miss out on meeting this handsome boy.

Milo's Story

Welcome handsome Milo to the VSR family.   Milo’s dad was injured during a break in and left him with a friend for care and never returned.   Milo lived with dogs from chiweenie size to a Cane Corso.  He is approximately 2-3.   We do know he chases children if they run, so no small children at this time.   He seems to have no reaction to most adults aside from the usual shepherd guardedness the first few minutes.    He’s a young energetic boy who loves to play.

Karly's Story

Our gorgeous 2 yr old girl Karly is back through no fault of her own.
These are tough times for humans and animals alike.  Poor Karly’s humans lost their income and home and were forced to bring her back when they had to move and couldn’t care for her.
She was a very good girl in the home.  She loved her teenage human brother and dad very much and was always ready to snuggle or play.  She’s an active girl who likes to play a little rough and can be mouthy at times.  She loves a good game of tug and will play a great round of fetch and even bring it to you most of the time.  She’s potty trained and well behaved in the home when exercised.
She doesn’t love being in a kennel and can be destructive if given the opportunity.  Exercise will be important for this young, active, and athletic girl.  She’s a good size and will need a confident, strong handler to be her best self.  Her dog relationships aren’t always great and small dogs are a no for her.  She is picky about her friends but has potential for sure.  She loves most humans she meets but small children could be subjected to mouthiness and being knocked over by her strong energy and play.

Hudson's Story

Hudson recently came to VSR in partnership with another rescue partner and he’s a fantastic example of his breed.

At 2 years old he is still all playful quirky puppy and full of spit and vinegar.   He’s vocal and fun and loves to play with his humans and get cuddles more than anything else.  He will run and chase and play and interact quite a bit.  He can be slightly mouthy when he gets overstimulated but not too hard.
He’s a quirky boy who will bark at reflections or shadows on the walls outside sometimes.  He has good house manners and is potty trained.  He’s the tidiest boy we’ve had in awhile and keeps his kennel area spotless and doesn’t even muss his blankets.  He is not destructive or anything of the sort and is a very good boy.
He can be strange in his choosing of new humans and quirky about making friends.  Sometimes he’s entirely open to it and sometimes he comes across as unfriendly at first.  He’s a bit protective of his favorite humans and will guard if given the opportunity.  He’s got so much live to give once he gets to know you.  This handsome devil is well worth meeting.  He has not had any successful dog relationships yet, and so far he prefers to be the only furry king of the castle.
