Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$400, with $350 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Karly's Story

Our gorgeous 2 yr old girl Karly is back through no fault of her own.
These are tough times for humans and animals alike.  Poor Karly’s humans lost their income and home and were forced to bring her back when they had to move and couldn’t care for her.
She was a very good girl in the home.  She loved her teenage human brother and dad very much and was always ready to snuggle or play.  She’s an active girl who likes to play a little rough and can be mouthy at times.  She loves a good game of tug and will play a great round of fetch and even bring it to you most of the time.  She’s potty trained and well behaved in the home when exercised.
She doesn’t love being in a kennel and can be destructive if given the opportunity.  Exercise will be important for this young, active, and athletic girl.  She’s a good size and will need a confident, strong handler to be her best self.  Her dog relationships aren’t always great and small dogs are a no for her.  She is picky about her friends but has potential for sure.  She loves most humans she meets but small children could be subjected to mouthiness and being knocked over by her strong energy and play.

Saber's Story

3 year old Saber recently came to us from our local shelter.   Saber has EPI, a condition Shepherds can get that affects the enzymes in the pancreas.  It is controlled with enzymes in his meals which he will need for his entire life.

Saber is a happy boy with lots of love to give.  He is currently in a foster home where he is getting to heal and have his body rebalance from his condition being untreated.
Saber is good with other dogs and, so far, friendly to humans he meets.  We will be getting to know him better and update his bio as we learn about him from his foster.
You don’t want to miss out on meeting this handsome boy.

Micah's Story

Micah recently lost his daddy through no fault of his own.   He has Perianal Fistulae and has been having a bit of a hard time.  He was with the same owner nearly all of his life over the past 8 years.   He’s been having problems coping with that loss.   He is undergoing treatment for his condition so we can get him as healthy as possible for adoption.
Micah was able to go to a foster home.  At first he was stressed and anxious and confused, but he came around and showed all the love he has to give.  He is friendly to small humans so far and seems less reactive to calm small dogs.  He does not seem to be a fan of dogs his size.   He’s a dream of a dog for the right family.   He walks well on a leash once he bonds to you but can be reactive to barking big dogs.
He will require a lifetime of management of his condition but he’s fantastic about allowing handling and easy to care for.  Once his condition is under control, it will be relatively simple to manage.

Geliebte (Gilly)'s Story

Geliebte, or Gilly (or G) as we affectionately call her, had a mammary carcinoma and hormone based cysts when our local shelter reached out for help.  All have been removed and she requires no further treatment at this time except love and good care.    She gets healthier every day and is putting on weight and getting the most beautiful coat again.  She needs a home and family of her own. Are you her hospice foster or adopter?
There is honestly no definitive time before the cancer could return.  It could be several months or even years with the right care possibly.    That part is mostly up to Mother Nature but there are holistic/homeopathic options out there that can help with long term care and health and there are things that can be done medically as well when that time comes and it does return.
What we CAN tell you is that she is a happy, loving girl who adores her furry foster siblings and enjoys being a part of a pack.  She is wonderful with humans she meets and a calm, gentle girl by nature.   Don’t let her age or what she went through fool you.  This girls got both sugar and spice according to her foster mama.  She likes to do a bit of roughhousing with her pack mate even.  She’s a tad picky about her food, but hey, she deserves a bit of pampering.   She even enjoys playing ball and seems to like water and loves a good car ride.   She has a youthful exuberance that makes her a joy to be around.
She’s got so much spunk and life left in her and we at VSR want to see her live it out in total comfort and happiness, going on adventures and having lots of treats.  Think you’re up for lots of love and giggles and walks and the most amazing new best buddy?   When you meet G, you will realize why she means so much to us and why we just had to change her story to a Yappily Ever After.

Hudson's Story

Hudson recently came to VSR in partnership with another rescue partner and he’s a fantastic example of his breed.

At 2 years old he is still all playful quirky puppy and full of spit and vinegar.   He’s vocal and fun and loves to play with his humans and get cuddles more than anything else.  He will run and chase and play and interact quite a bit.  He can be slightly mouthy when he gets overstimulated but not too hard.
He’s a quirky boy who will bark at reflections or shadows on the walls outside sometimes.  He has good house manners and is potty trained.  He’s the tidiest boy we’ve had in awhile and keeps his kennel area spotless and doesn’t even muss his blankets.  He is not destructive or anything of the sort and is a very good boy.
He can be strange in his choosing of new humans and quirky about making friends.  Sometimes he’s entirely open to it and sometimes he comes across as unfriendly at first.  He’s a bit protective of his favorite humans and will guard if given the opportunity.  He’s got so much live to give once he gets to know you.  This handsome devil is well worth meeting.  He has not had any successful dog relationships yet, and so far he prefers to be the only furry king of the castle.

Nick's Story

The beautiful snowy white 2 yr old Nick is still looking for his forever home.
Since being altered he is much calmer and less jumpy and in your face. He’s a very big boy and could be difficult to handle. He still needs a strong, confident owner to help guide him to being the best boy he can be. He’s still working on leash manners and if not corrected he will pull you all over the place.
He’s fantastic at fetch and will chase just about any toy but really loves jolly balls and being chased around with a toy in his mouth. He’s very active and athletic and lots of fun to watch run around and play. He’s very interactive and loves to he with his humans. He can he great with other dogs his size with a proper intro. He’s still got a bit of dog on dog skills to learn and can be a bit dominant and use his paws so a well balanced dog to help guide him would be beneficial.
His size, strength, and tendency to throw himself at you for a hug doesn’t make him ideal for small children or those with elderly at home. However, he would be great with older kids or with training as he is very human friendly. He loves to ride in the car and prefers to have his head between the seats watching next to you if he can’t ride shot gun. He is potty trained and not destructive that we’ve seen so far and he does kennel well.
Think you’re the family for Nick?

Ben's Story

In our time with the very handsome 18 month old Ben, we have learned lots of things about him.
18 m Ben is so very ready for a forever family. He is good with most humans he meets and with a proper intro, good with dogs his size. Due to his prey drive, little kids, cars and small dogs are a no. He’s housebroken and knows a few commands but needs training and someone who’s had experience with working dogs.
He enjoys a bit of counter surfing for snacks if given the chance but corrects quickly with a stern OFF.  He is high energy, the kind of high energy you think 45 minutes straight of fetch will burn off and then he’s staring at you and crying to keep going.  He whimpers and vocalizes during play.  Its adorable.  He gets over stimulated and over exuberant and needs to be taken in hand sometimes so a confident owner would benefit him.  We make him sit before we throw his balls so he doesn’t lunge and grab for instance.  We also make him sit for his meals, which he has no problem with any humans being around.
He’s a lover.  A jump up in your face, hug you, and beg you to pet him and throw his ball, l.o.v.e.r.  He can be mouthy when he’s amped up, like most of his breed, but a loud “OW” stops him in his tracks.  With guidance he’s truly a phenomenal dog.  He can be picky about new furry friends but for the most part, if introduced properly, he could easily live a happy life with another dog his size.  We wouldn’t recommend small animals as he has displayed some prey drive and a willingness to act on it with bunnies in our yard and small dogs he’s met.
He is potty trained and will hold it all night or during a work day easily if he doesn’t have access to outside.   He can be a handful but no more than most dogs at 18 months of his breed.   He has a tendency to grab first, ask questions later when it comes to his toys if not kept control of and guided to make the right decisions.  He’s great in a car and loves to go places.  His preference is to ride shotgun in his own way, standing with his head between the seats to see the world around him.
Think you’re Bens dream family?  You can apply to foster or adopt at www.Vegasshepherdrescue.com.  Already approved?  Reach out to us for a meeting.

Milo's Story

Welcome handsome Milo to the VSR family.   Milo’s dad was injured during a break in and left him with a friend for care and never returned.   Milo lived with dogs from chiweenie size to a Cane Corso.  He is approximately 2-3.   We do know he chases children if they run, so no small children at this time.   He seems to have no reaction to most adults aside from the usual shepherd guardedness the first few minutes.    He’s a young energetic boy who loves to play.
