Available Dogs

If one of our available orphans tugs at your heartstrings, please fill out our Adoption Application under the “Applications” tab and you will be contacted within 48 hours.  You must be approved to adopt before you can meet our dogs.  All applications require a home visit in order to be approved.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and range from $125-$400, with $350 being the price for most. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

Bruno's Story

Welcome 3 yr old Bruno. This handsome boy came to us all the way from rural farm country in TX where he had a fondness for sheep and by fondness, he found them tasty.

He had a long journey with many people involved and easy a perfect gentlemen the whole way.  He was friendly to dogs he met along the way and so far has shown us no negative behaviors.

He is actually the sweetest, most affectionate boy.  He loves toys that squeak and will carry them around amd whine at them occasionally.  His favorite thing in the world is deep ear scratches.  He tries to push your fingers way in there and get to to scratch him good.  He totally melts and starts vocalizing.  He is super fun and active now that he is coming out of his shell.  He can be a bit shy at first but just a bit and he recovered quickly.

This wonderful boy would make a great addition to most situations.  We will be testing to see what his favorite types of friends might be for fur siblings.  You don’t want to miss out on this unicorn… unless you have a farm. 🙂

Sabrina's Story

Say hello to our newest addition, 3 yr old female GSD Sabrina.

This beautiful and sweet girl came to us by way of our local shelter.
We know she lived with a family that included children and she was gentle and sweet. She is very much a velcro type amd prefers to be with her favorite humans whenever possible.
She loves to chase toys and squeaky things and she loves the pool and splashing around. We do know she had a scuffle with another dog in her past but her calm demeanor around other dogs tells us that she may be able to have another friend who’s personality matches her own.
She is absolutely gorgeous and has a fantastic energy about her.    She is all sweetness and love.  You won’t want to miss out on this special girl.

Karly's Story

Our gorgeous 2 yr old girl Karly is back through no fault of her own.
These are tough times for humans and animals alike.  Poor Karly’s humans lost their income and home and were forced to bring her back when they had to move and couldn’t care for her.
She was a very good girl in the home.  She loved her teenage human brother and dad very much and was always ready to snuggle or play.  She’s an active girl who likes to play a little rough and can be mouthy at times.  She loves a good game of tug and will play a great round of fetch and even bring it to you most of the time.  She’s potty trained and well behaved in the home when exercised.
She doesn’t love being in a kennel and can be destructive if given the opportunity.  Exercise will be important for this young, active, and athletic girl.  She’s a good size and will need a confident, strong handler to be her best self.  Her dog relationships aren’t always great and small dogs are a no for her.  She is picky about her friends but has potential for sure.  She loves most humans she meets but small children could be subjected to mouthiness and being knocked over by her strong energy and play.

Milo's Story

Welcome handsome Milo to the VSR family.   Milo’s dad was injured during a break in and left him with a friend for care and never returned.   Milo lived with dogs from chiweenie size to a Cane Corso.  He is approximately 2-3.   We do know he chases children if they run, so no small children at this time.   He seems to have no reaction to most adults aside from the usual shepherd guardedness the first few minutes.    He’s a young energetic boy who loves to play.

Hudson's Story

Hudson recently came to VSR in partnership with another rescue partner and he’s a fantastic example of his breed.

At 2 years old he is still all playful quirky puppy and full of spit and vinegar.   He’s vocal and fun and loves to play with his humans and get cuddles more than anything else.  He will run and chase and play and interact quite a bit.  He can be slightly mouthy when he gets overstimulated but not too hard.
He’s a quirky boy who will bark at reflections or shadows on the walls outside sometimes.  He has good house manners and is potty trained.  He’s the tidiest boy we’ve had in awhile and keeps his kennel area spotless and doesn’t even muss his blankets.  He is not destructive or anything of the sort and is a very good boy.
He can be strange in his choosing of new humans and quirky about making friends.  Sometimes he’s entirely open to it and sometimes he comes across as unfriendly at first.  He’s a bit protective of his favorite humans and will guard if given the opportunity.  He’s got so much live to give once he gets to know you.  This handsome devil is well worth meeting.  He has not had any successful dog relationships yet, and so far he prefers to be the only furry king of the castle.

Mack's Story

This handsome new guy is Mack. He’s 4 years old and quite the playful boy.

He was surrendered to us because he didnt get along with another pup in the home. He’s been a great boy and non reactive so far at the shep house so we have hope that it was just a bad mix rather than him not liking other furry friends.
He loves toys and will play until your arms are tired and still be ready for another round. He’s polite and well behaved and seems to have a pretty decent foundation for good behavior. He’s been social and friendly with everyone he meets so far. He can be a bit grabby with toys/treats so little children might not be a good idea for him just in case.
We will update as we get to know him a little better but this sweet boy is going to make a great family member.

Luke & Leia's Story

New bonded pair Luke and Leia:

Luke(m) and Leia(f) are about 4 years old and came from our local shelter.
These two did a couple of stints at the shelter when they somehow ended up running the streets.  Intensely bonded, these two 4 yr old pups do everything together from eating to playing to sleeping.   They experience a great amount of stress when separated so we are trying to keep them together.  We believe them to be littermates.  Leia will bust out of a kennel to get to Luke even if side by side.
So far, we could not adore these two wild and silly dogs any more.   They are so much fun.  Lots of great energy and they love love love to play.  So far they seem to love any kind of toys and chasing each other playfully.  They have lots of energy and tend to run amok through the house without exercise.   We have not done dog testing yet but we do know they weren’t friendly to a poodle when running loose as young pups in 2018.   Further testing will be done as they wind down a bit and get used to their new environment.  So far they seem to like most new humans friends they’ve encountered.   These two might be a bit much for smaller children only because of their playful exuberance.
Follow Luke and Leias story as we try to bring a little of the Force to their lives and find them a place to stay together always.
